Laurie Edmonstone

PYP Art Teacher

Laurie Edmonstone received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with an emphasis in K-12 Art Education and minor in Art History from Metropolitan State University of Denver in the United States. She has 6 years’ art education experience in grades K5-G12. This is her 2nd year teaching at an international school in China and previously she was at a high school in Colorado where she taught MYP/DP visual arts, ceramics, drawing & painting, sculpture, digital photography, technical theater, and adaptive art. She is interested in art history and an avid reader on contemporary art and art issues.

Her classroom is a choice-based art studio where children are taught skills and techniques in a variety of art materials. Students make decisions about which materials they would like to use for their art ideas. This approach builds confidence in young artists and allows for divergent thinking. Students will be exposed to and research art and artists from across time and places to gain a global perspective of art. They will also use technology to aid them in brainstorming, collecting ideas/skills, and reflecting.

She is excited to start her PYP art adventure at ISNS!
