John Ottmann

MYP Performing Arts Teacher

John teaches Performing Arts at ISNS. He has extensive experience as a specialist teacher of dance -classical and contemporary ballet in particular. As a professional ballet dancer, John toured and performed throughout Asia and North America for over 20 years. Alongside his performing career, John developed a progressive training approach and method for professionals and students alike. From 2009 to 2011 he was the Artistic Director of one of Canada’s respected professional ballet schools—the Quinte Ballet School of Canada. From there he went on to be a course director at York University in Toronto teaching the 4th year course for eight years. 


During his time at York he also attained a Master of Arts degree in Dramaturgy, and Arts & Cultural Management. John also wrote curriculum for ballet, contemporary dance and partnering at Centennial College in Toronto and also teaches dance students from grade 5 and up. John has a close working relationship with the professional performing company, ProArteDanza, as a Dramaturge and Rehearsal Director.

John is an adventurer at heart and aims to cultivate that same view in his students as they travel through their educational journey at ISNS.
